Pokemon SoulSilver is a remake of the Generation 2 games Pokemon Gold and Silver, which released in 1999 for the GameBoy Colour.
Let me begin this review with one of my many topics; the Aesthetic
Let me just set the record that I think that these are the prettiest looking Pokemon games ever made.
Every single place in this game, from the forests to the towns and from the caves to the grassy paths, just looks really lovely.
And the music as well, such great songs in this game.
One of my favourite tracks is definitely Azelea Town; as it just suits the area so well, sounding very homely.
I don't have the file for the song, so if you want to listen to it yourself, look it up on YouTube.
Lets move onto the next section.
Pokemon SoulSilver's gameplay is the same formula as other Pokemon games.
Y'know, catch Pokemon, fight Gyms, beat Evil Team, beat Champion, all that stuff.
But I believe the Pokemon formula was perfected for this game.
Team Rocket's return was fun (although a little expected), the events with Raikou, Entei and Suicune were original and the whole lighthouse saga was pretty great.
The important battles (Gym Leaders, Rocket Executives, Elite 4 etc.) were super enjoyable, as some battles were quite tricky.
The only part of this story was mainly plot points that felt too stretched (E.G The part of the story between beating Jasmine and beating Clair).
Finally, the designs.
The Johto Region has some of the best Pokemon designs ever. Even right at the start of the Pokedex, the starter Pokemon are great.
Chikorita, Cyndaquil and Totodile all look so cute, Bayleef, Quilava and Crocnaw look cool, and Typhlosion + Feraligatr look awesome.
But Meganium is still cute.
And while yes, some Pokemon may have had somewhat lacking designs, most of the Pokemon in the region have good designs.
This was my final team for the game, with all of my Pokemon being Gen2 designs or Gen4 evolutions of those Pokemon (except Tangrowth).
Goes to show how great the new Pokemon are.
Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver are two of the greatest Pokemon games ever made and needed to be played by all fans of the franchise.
